Cupping is a traditional Chinese medical treatment used to break up stagnation and congestion in the skin and promote healing and proper circulation. In recent years cupping has become a popular treatment, especially among professional athletes in swimming and track and field. At The Lux Spa, we offer cupping therapy for both back and face.
Ancient Practice - Modern Application
Cupping is an ancient treatment, dating back over 3,000 years, and was established as an official therapeutic practice in China during the 1950s. It involves placing small glass cups or bamboo jars on the body. The cups suction on the skin and gently draw the skin and superficial muscle layer into the cup. Cupping feels like a deep massage, but rather than applying pressure to the muscles, it gently draws the muscles upwards. Cups are typically left in place for about 10 minutes after suctioning begins to produce a relaxing and relieving feeling. When used on the face, cupping gently lifts the facial tissue to give you skin that is visibly tighter and brighter.
